Raynald Delerme
Raynald “Baba” Delerme is a Haitian filmmaker, producer, director, actor, distributor, and entrepreneur whose career spans film, television, production, and media development. A longtime figure in Haitian audiovisual entertainment, Delerme has built a body of work that combines filmmaking with the development of platforms and production infrastructure serving Haitian audiences and creative professionals.
Born on July 5, 1957, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Delerme moved to Boston at the age of 14. He later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film, with a minor in Broadcasting, from the University of Miami.
His professional career in Haiti included work with Télévision Nationale d’Haïti (TNH), where he created En Studio and developed live television programming and festivals, including TNH en Plein Air. He later became widely recognized through the comedy series Languichatte au XXe siècle, which he created and in which he portrayed the character “Baba.” The name became his enduring screen and public identity.
Delerme made his feature-film directorial debut with Founérailles in 1985. Over the following decades, he directed and produced a substantial catalog of films that reached audiences in Haiti and throughout the Haitian diaspora. His filmography includes Les Gens de bien (1988), L’Enquête se poursuit (1994), La femme de mon ami (1997), Infidélité (1999), Pour l’amour de Suzie (2002), Ala Traka pou Baba (2006), Ti fi pastè-a 2 (2007), Lago Kache (2007), Dyab Baba (2009), Dyab Baba 2 (2010), and 2 Sè (2010).
His films frequently combine comedy, drama, social satire, and stories rooted in everyday Haitian life. Through this work, Delerme helped develop popular Haitian cinema for audiences both at home and abroad.
His contributions also extend to television and media entrepreneurship. In 1990, Delerme founded PVS Antenne 16, presented as Haiti’s first private television channel, along with PVS Studios, a production and distribution company connected to Haiti and Miami. These ventures expanded opportunities for Haitian actors, filmmakers, technicians, and other audiovisual professionals.
Delerme currently serves as President of the Haitian American Association of Filmmakers. Beyond the entertainment industry, he has been involved in business ventures including Palenet Cellular, a Florida communications corporation, as well as real estate investments.
Across several decades, Raynald “Baba” Delerme has worked on both sides of the screen: creating films and television programs while also developing production, distribution, and broadcast platforms. His career represents a sustained contribution to Haitian film, television, and popular entertainment, with work that has connected audiences in Haiti with Haitian communities throughout the diaspora.
